The 1960s pop art movement artists created paintings of mass culture objects and media stars, the movement aimed to blur the boundaries between “high” art and “low” culture. The concept that there is no hierarchy of culture and that art may borrow from any source has been one of the most influential characteristics of Pop art.

Students create an original artwork based on Roy Lichtensteinʼs Comic Book style of Pop art.
Steps to completing Pop Art Assignment:
1. Take photos of yourself orSelect an image from google. Then save it to you downloads folder and open it in Photoshop. To open an image in photoshop you will choose File>open
2. Next Create an 8×10 image in Photoshop. See Screenshot Below. Then you will drag and drop your photo that you downloaded onto this new document. Just like we did with the pattern project.
3. Next Resize the image to fill the page. Click Control+ T to resize it, then drag from a corner to make it fill the page.
4. Create a new layer and name it Outline. To rename layer just click on the words layer 1. Then use the paint brush tool (B); carefully trace all the important features of your image. Make sure you use a hard edges brush
My Brush Setting: hard round 5-8 px Color: Black Yours brush size may vary depending on the image you selected.
When you are completed tracing it will look like this… You can click on the eyeball next to you photo layer to turn it off and view it like below.
5. Duplicate your outline layer and name it color. To duplicate the layer you will right click on the layer named outline select duplicate. This layer will need to be dragged to go below the outline layer and renamed COLOR. You lwill use this layer to add the color to your pop art portrait.
6.Now select the color you want to paint and fill in your drawing. You can select the color by double clicking on the swatches at the bottom of you tool bar. This will open a pop up called the color picker. YOu can select the color you want to use and then click ok. Then use the brush (B) or Paint Bucket (G) color. Make sure your on the color layer before you start painting .
Advanced Tip: use the eyedropper to select the colors in the original image to paint with.
7. Now you are going to fill the Layer labeled background with a bright color of your choice and apply a halftone brush pattern. Click on the layer labeled background. Then go to Edit> Fill . When the fill pop up appears select color from the contents dropdown, then when the color picker appears pick the color you want to fill the background layer with and then click ok.
8. The final step is to add the halftone brush pattern to the background layer. First you will need to download and install the brushes
To install the halftone brushes you will need to download them from the link below. Create a new layer above the background layer and paint white with halftone brushes below to create a halftone effect you like. Do not drag the brush just click.

To install the brushes after you download them. Extract the file and then double click on the .abr files in the folder. It will not look like much happens but the brushes will install into photoshop and will appear in the brush dropdown at the top of you screen.
9. Select a halftone brush and add the pattern to the background layer and then you are done.
10 The completed file will need to be saved as a JPG. To save go to File > Save as Name the file and then change the dropdown below the name to JPG. Submitted this file into the powerschool Assignment named Pop Art Photoshop.
