Pen tool Silhouette

Now that we have practiced how the pen tool works.  We are going to create THREE of our original silhouettes using the pen tool.

Step one: go online and search for 3 photographs which you can use to trace and make your silhouette.  THEY MUST BE PHOTOS, no already create silhouettes or illustration (cartoons, Disney characters, etc.)

Save you three photos to your pictures folder.

Step Two: Open Illustrator and make a new 8.5×11 document.  Then go to File>Place and located the 3 images you want to add to your artboard.  You will create all three silhouettes in one document.  Click and drag to place each image on the page.  Tip: If you need to resize the image.  Make sure you Hold shift while dragging from a corner so everything stays proportional.

Step Three: Lock each photo.  Click on each photo and then click control + 2 to lock each image in place.   This way nothing will move by accident when you are drawing.

Step Four: Click on the pen tool (p) and start to create your path. Make sure you start and finish in on the same point.  You must create a complete shape for it to fill properly.  For a refresher on how to use the pen tool, you can play the bezier game or watch this video: https://youtu.be/j69a3-shkGE

Once you have completed all three of you shapes you can fill each one to make sure that they don’t need any fine tuning.   If any modification needs to be made using the white arrow and or pen tool to modify your paths.  Once the paths are all cleaned up save the file as a pdf and submit it on google classroom.
