Negative space Lettering

Charlie!NegSpace

Program: Adobe Illustrator

Page Size: 13×19 Letter

Directions:

  1. Create a new document in Adobe Illustrator
  2. Select a word that you would like to express.
  3. Type your word and select a bold sans serif font.  Consider the typeface you use.  A bold clean typeface will provide just the right amount about of straight line and curves to keep the negative text legible.
  4. Adjust the spacing between the letters so that you have plenty of space to space your shapes.
  5. On a new layer, create several vector shapes that will help to support the word/message. At least 6.
  6. explore the size, scale, color, and placement of the vector shapes.  The shapes should be placed so that they will take on the shape of the letters when the word is removed.
